BIRON CLEMENCE (1889 - ?)
BIRON CLEMENCE (Belgian, born 1889)
Known as a painter of still-lifes, landscapes and the occasional figurative piece Clemence Biron was born in Valenciennes, France in 1889 of Belgian parents. At the age of sixteen he was enrolled in the Academy of Brussels where he studied under the guidance of Herman Richir, the famed portrait and figure painter. Graduating in 1915, Clemence Biron established himself as a professional painter working in an Impressionist manner.
Although technically strong, it was as a colorist that he excelled. The subtle use of different but sympathetic tone is evident in this piece dating from the early 1920’s.
Other paintings by Clemence Biron can be seen in the museum of Namur in Belgium
